Hartmann is a large medical company focusing on wound management, compression therapy, skin and continence care. Current products include Hydrocoll dressings (self-adherent absorbent dressings with semipermeable layers covering hydrocolloid gels which keeps moisture in and promotes wound healing) and Omnifix elastic (non-woven skin-friendly elastic that adheres well, removes easily and does not leave any residue).
The Hartmann Group started in Germany in 1818 and is connected to several major milestones in the healthcare industry. These include the first-ever antiseptic wound dressing, advances in industrial production for cotton wool dressings, and the development of cost-effective carbolated gauze. Hartmann also created Sterillium in 1965, the classic alcohol-based disinfectant that was used in hospitals for over 50 years.
